Ethiopia faces a huge challenge to reach its target of attracting within the next decade one million tourists annually to the vast country, widely vaunted as the cradle of humanity where the oldest human remains in the world have been found. Despite creaking infrastructure, in both modes of transport and hotels, the government aims to promote Ethiopia as one of the top 10 major tourist destinations in Africa by 2016, hoping to reap $650 million a year in much-needed foreign receipts.
